How San Antonio Families Pay for Montessori Daycare
Daycare financial assistance in San Antonio comes in more forms than most parents realize — and quality early childhood education is one of the largest line items in a young family’s budget. Between state subsidies, military assistance, employer pre-tax accounts, and the federal child care tax credit, the price you see is rarely the price you pay. Below is a plain-English guide to every program San Antonio families use at Edquisitive Montessori, plus exactly what we provide to make tax time simple.
Edquisitive Montessori is not a tax advisor. The information below is general guidance to help you understand your options — please confirm eligibility and amounts with a qualified tax professional or the administering agency.
💰 The Four Ways to Lower Your Cost
- Subsidies — Child Care Services (CCS) and Military Child Care Aware (CCA), accepted at all four campuses
- Pre-tax dollars — a Dependent Care FSA through your employer
- A tax credit — the federal Child & Dependent Care Tax Credit, claimed when you file
- Education funding — Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA), accepted at select campuses
You can often combine more than one. Here’s how each works.
🏛️ Subsidies: CCS & Military Child Care Aware
Do you accept Child Care Services (CCS) subsidies?
Yes. All four Edquisitive Montessori campuses accept Child Care Services (CCS), the subsidy program administered through Workforce Solutions Alamo for eligible working families in the San Antonio area. If you qualify, CCS may cover most or all of your child’s tuition. Already approved? Bring your authorization to your tour and we’ll handle the rest.
Do you accept military child care assistance?
Yes. We accept Military Child Care Aware (CCA), the Department of Defense fee-assistance program for active-duty, National Guard, and Reserve families. San Antonio’s military community — including families connected to JBSA, Lackland, Randolph, and Fort Sam Houston — uses CCA to offset the cost of quality care at our campuses.
How do I find out if I qualify for a child care subsidy?
Eligibility for CCS is based on income, work or school status, and family size, and is determined by Workforce Solutions Alamo — not by us. Military CCA eligibility is determined by the Department of Defense through Child Care Aware of America. We’re happy to walk you through which program fits your situation during a campus tour, and we accept approved authorizations from both.
🧾 Pre-Tax Dollars & the Tax Credit: FSA, HSA & the Child Care Credit
Can I use a Dependent Care FSA to pay for daycare?
Yes. A Dependent Care FSA (DCFSA) lets you set aside pre-tax dollars from your paycheck — up to the annual IRS limit — to pay for daycare and preschool for children under 13. Because the money is taken out before taxes, you effectively pay for care with untaxed income. Edquisitive tuition qualifies, and our year-end payment statement gives you the documentation your FSA administrator needs.
Can I pay for daycare with an HSA?
No — and this is a common point of confusion. Daycare and preschool tuition are not HSA-eligible expenses, because an HSA covers qualified medical costs, not child care. The account you’re thinking of is the Dependent Care FSA, which is built specifically for child care and which our tuition does qualify for. If your employer offers one, that’s the pre-tax route for daycare.
Are daycare expenses tax deductible?
Daycare isn’t a deduction, but it can earn you a tax credit, which is often worth more. The federal Child & Dependent Care Tax Credit lets eligible families claim a percentage of what they paid for care (for children under 13) so that they could work or look for work. A credit reduces your tax bill dollar-for-dollar, unlike a deduction that only reduces taxable income. You’ll need your provider’s Tax ID and total paid for the year — both of which we provide.
Do you provide a year-end statement for taxes?
Yes. Each January, we issue every family an annual payment summary showing the total tuition you paid for the prior year, along with our Tax ID (EIN). That’s exactly what you need to claim the Child & Dependent Care Tax Credit or to submit for Dependent Care FSA reimbursement — no need to dig through bank statements or request paperwork at the last minute.
🎓 Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA)
Texas Education Freedom Accounts are state education funds that select Edquisitive campuses accept. Because eligibility and availability change, we keep the full details on a dedicated page.
