Hand-eye coordination – Did you know infants are nearsighted at birth?

In fact, infants are nearsighted until eight weeks old prohibiting them from developing their hand-eye coordination skills prior to gaining better sight. Although this skill can’t be taught once children become aware of their hands and sight, parents can motive children with stimulating objects.

Between the ages of 2 to 2.5 years old, children the eyesight and spatial awareness to engage with objects like pegged blocks that will further enhance their hand-eye coordination skills.

Developing hand-eye coordination in early childhood is important because its an essential part of reading, handwriting, and sports. Aside from pegged toy activities, children can strengthen these skills with practical life activities like threading and using clothespins, and sensorial activities like puzzles.
